Infographic Design – 10 infographics to engage your audience (2024)

With our brains processing images 60,000 times faster than verbal messages, it’s no surprise that over 90% of the information we process is visual.

That’s why infographics are a strong tool to arm yourself with. Infographics take the effectiveness of your marketing or internal engagement campaigns to the next level, allowing your audience to understand complex messages in a fraction of the time, therefore engaging more, and acting faster.

Here are 10 different ways that have helped our clients communicate with audiences through the power of infographics.

1 – Conversation starter

You may want to engage your audience with a poll on social media, or share some findings, or ask some questions internally that will get your employees talking by the water cooler (or the coffee machine). So nothing better to see your engagement rate climb than to start a conversation with a highly visual infographic.

2 – Educate to show you care

After traditional methods such as face to face discussions or patient information sheets had failed, Professor Patrick Kiely, renowned Consultant Rheumatologist at St George’s Hospital, London, came to us. He needed a new way to explain to his patients how important it is to follow every single step of prescribed treatment.

Our solution came in the form of an infographic (and an animation) inspired by 1980s arcade games – a total departure from other patient communications, and a success.

3 – 2, 1… Launch!

When you’re launching a new product or service to market, you can count on infographic design to communicate a message, no matter how complex, without overwhelming your audience.

That’s what we did for our client Kheiron Medical to support them at a major industry event. We created a series of infographics to showcase the different product features that made a resounding success of a clinical trial where their ground-breaking AI tool is used to help radiologists in the early detection of breast cancer.

4 – Create impact to engage

You can rely on infographic design to create real impact with your internal communications and boost employee engagement.

To celebrate a team usually “in the background” – in this case Deloitte’s IT department – we turned a large amount of quantitative data into an impactful visual story that summarises what the IT team do, and how it affects other departments in the organisation. The infographic immediately grabbed the attention of employees, and contributed to an increased sense of unity and common purpose across different functions in the company.

5 – Tell your story a different way

The Shipowners’ Club know that they owe much of their 160 years in business to their customers’ loyalty. So to help them celebrate this historic milestone and share their story on their website – and make it stick in the audience’s minds – we designed an interactive infographic that allowed customers to navigate through key achievements in the company’s history.

The interactive nature of the timeline design adds a sense of fun, movement and journey customisation. The dynamic feature is broken down into easy to digest sections, with historic achievements highlighted by images from the Shipowners’ archive. We also incorporated graphic devices inspired by nautical elements to help the viewer plot their journey.

By presenting the company’s 160-year history through infographic design, we helped Shipowners’ reinforce the idea that they’re focused on innovation and are excited about the future.

Instead of producing a direct mail piece that could be easily discarded, we designed a beautiful, tactile and durable piece that encouraged the audience to ‘play’ with it again and again and treat it as useful reference material, reinforcing the idea of Thomson Reuters as a solutions provider.Infographic Design – 10 infographics to engage your audience (8)

Here key product features and helpful tips are communicated through an impactful and unique infographic design. The double-sided concertina format, clever fold-out mechanism and 3D elements add to the playfulness of the piece.

8 – Improve your customer experience

Visually engaging infographics can you help you cut through the noise in a busy environment, such as an airport terminal. When you know your customers’ dwell time is limited, and that they’re surrounded by distractions, you have to ensure their experience is as memorable – and effective for you – as possible.

The retail infographics wall we designed for one of the busiest terminals at Manchester Airport serves a dual purpose: it improves the passenger experience by guiding them towards the departure lounge and it also promotes the wide range of facilities and services available.

The striking and colourful infographics stand out in areas with some of the busiest traffic within the terminal, and the lighthearted illustration style and playful script font are the perfect base to introduce the benefits passengers can take advantage of. The size and scale of the graphics help capture the passengers’ imagination, and engaging content and design are vital in communicating that holiday fun really can start even before take-off.Infographic Design – 10 infographics to engage your audience (9)
